2026 Constitution & Bylaws Updates Proposal
Central Assembly of God
Letter from the Senior Pastor
Dear Central Family,
I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you and to shepherd this church with integrity, faithfulness, and
wisdom. As we continue to pursue God’s mission together, there are moments when we must pause and
ensure that our foundation is strong, clear, and biblically aligned.
After prayerful consideration, consultation with leadership, and review of our governing documents, we are
presenting proposed updates to our Constitution and Bylaws. These updates are not about changing who
we are, but about clearly documenting what we already believe and how we responsibly govern the church
God has entrusted to us.
The proposed updates aim to: - Clarify our biblical convictions - Strengthen protection for our pastors,
volunteers, and congregation - Improve leadership processes and accountability - Align our documents with
current Assemblies of God guidance and Michigan Ministry Network (MMN) expectations - Position Central
Assembly for long-term health, unity, and mission effectiveness
You will notice language that more clearly defines marriage and biblical conduct, adjustments that refer to
church participation as partnership rather than membership, and a refined process for selecting deacons
that emphasizes prayer, unity, and spiritual discernment. You will also see added governance and riskmanagement
provisions designed to steward the church well in today’s legal and cultural environment.
Every proposed change has been made with a pastoral heart and a desire to honor Scripture, protect the
church, and preserve unity. No changes alter our doctrine or diminish the role of the congregation. Your
voice matters, and your prayerful consideration is valued.
I encourage you to read the materials carefully, ask thoughtful questions, and join us in seeking God’s
wisdom as we move forward together.
Attached below you will find a few documents. There is an overview of the proposed changes, a detailed biblical explanation of both the deacon selection process and the terminology change from member to partner, and lastly, a full Constitution & Bylaws document for your review.
In the Constitution & Bylaw document, you will see any lines crossed out to be removed and anything in red to be added.
We will gather on Sunday, March 29th, 2026, to vote on these proposed changes following the morning service. We will have a time of prayer, a walk-through of each proposed change, an opportunity for any questions you may have, and then a vote.
Thank you for your faithfulness, your trust, and your continued partnership in the Gospel.
With gratitude and confidence in Christ,
Pastor Jeff Haddon
Lead Pastor
Central Assembly of God
